Mr M.,
I think you're suffering from "readingrulebookswithoutregularopponents-itus." Maybe without a regular game, you are trapped in the world of Theorymachine? I went through this type of thing back in the 40k days as you may re-call - Space Marines led to Witch Hunters lead to Orks led Tau led to Imperial Guard, and finally, Lost and the Damned. I think in the absence of painting (which I was avoiding at the time), I filled the void with thinking, which is always dangerous for a geek. You spend a lot of time thinking about the game now, probably because you aren't playing regularly.
However, with all of that said, you have to go with what suits your playstyle, especially with Warmachine, as we all know. Loving the models and the fluff just doesn't cut it with this game. For a model game, I find Warmachine far more about the actual game than a lot of other war games. It would be fun, I'm sure, to try another paint scheme on Cryx models. There's also something to be said for learning from experiences the first time around. You should know at this point precisely what you do and don't like playing in a Cryx force.
In other news, Stu and I plan on playing our first game of Impetus tomorrow night. It will be a 300-point game; Romans vs. Parthians of course. I can't wait to learn the rules and start playing regularly. I think we are both pretty pumped.
One last Cryx-y point. Have you thought of a list?
